Dark Nights of Barcelona

There is something calming about a city at night. During the day everything is moving, working, and making commotion. The smells, sounds and sights are alive, but by night all of that seems to calm and a new city comes alive. Walking home the past few nights from the Barca Night Bus has been rather interesting. The silence of the once bustling streets seems odd, but it tends to be rather soothing. Attractions like the Sagrada Familia sit empty, restaurant chairs are stacked and the people are asleep. Why is pure darkness, quietness and emptiness so peaceful? I think it is the drastic difference that ignites a different insight, a different feeling, and a different view of the city. All of a sudden the streets are filled with faded stories, sleeping homeless and a bit of rest for the day to come.

Am I a man of the city? Or still a country boy? Maybe this is why I find peace in the darkness of Barcelona, because the city is too much to bare 24/7. The beaches and night clubs may be alive, but the rest of the city sits in silence, darkness and a restful state.  For tonight, I must rest, and tomorrow will bring yet another insight into this incredible city.
